Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, two consuls general and the president of the bombed Jewish center will gather at Beth Torah Benny Rok Campus on Monday, July 27. It marks 32 years since what the Greater Miami Jewish Federation calls the deadliest antisemitic attack outside Israel since the Holocaust.

The 32nd annual commemoration of the AMIA bombing begins at 7 p.m. at the campus, 20350 NE 26th Ave. in North Miami Beach, in the Aventura area. Admission is free, but registration is required through the federation's website, jewishmiami.org.

The federation, a co-sponsor of the event, described it as a community-wide tribute to the victims of the attack, carried out by Iranian and Hezbollah terrorists on the Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina Jewish Community Center in Buenos Aires.

What Happened in 1994

On July 18, 1994, a suicide bomber drove a van packed with explosives into the AMIA building in Buenos Aires, killing 85 people and injuring more than 300. It remains the deadliest terrorist attack in Argentine history.

In April 2024, Argentina's highest criminal court found Iran responsible for the attack and declared it a crime against humanity. In June 2025, federal Judge Daniel Rafecas ruled that a trial in absentia would proceed against 10 men accused of planning and ordering the bombing, meaning this year's commemoration arrives as a historic legal proceeding moves forward.

Who Is Speaking

Keynote speaker Elan S. Carr, CEO of the Israeli-American Council, served as U.S. special envoy to monitor and combat antisemitism from 2019 to 2021 and spent more than 20 years as a U.S. Army Reserve officer, including an anti-terrorism deployment in Iraq.

He will be joined by:

  • Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava
  • Argentine Consul General Marcelo Gilardoni
  • Israeli Consul General Zuri Siso
  • AMIA President Osvaldo Armoza

Why It Matters Here

Miami-Dade County's Jewish population has grown 25% over the past decade, reaching approximately 130,100 individuals across nearly 70,000 households, according to the federation's 2024 community study. Aventura and the surrounding communities are home to one of the county's largest concentrations of Jewish residents.
