Aventura's Local Planning Agency meets Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 6 p.m. in the Commission Chamber at the Government Center, 19200 West Country Club Drive, returning after no session in August.
The LPA is the city's land-use review body. It holds public hearings on proposed zoning ordinances, development regulation changes and variances before they advance to the full City Commission for a final vote.
No agenda had been posted on the city's Agenda Center as of Aug. 27. Residents can check that page for specific items as the meeting date approaches.
Who sits on the LPA
The seven-member body is the City Commission sitting in a planning capacity. As of its July 7 session, members were Mayor Howard S. Weinberg, Vice Mayor Clifford B. Ain and Commissioners Gustavo Blachman, Amit Bloom, Rachel S. Friedland, Paul A. Kruss and Cindy Orlinsky. City Manager Bryan Pegues, City Clerk Ellisa L. Horvath and City Attorney Robert Meyers also attend.
The LPA typically convenes the same evening as a regular City Commission meeting.
What happened at the last session
At its July 7 meeting, the LPA recommended approval of two items. The first was an ordinance creating a new Aventura Metropolitan Urban Center Zoning District Overlay, which would amend Chapter 31 of the City Code governing land development regulations. The second was a sign graphics variance for the Aventura City Center mixed-use development at 2999 NE 191 St.
Both items received approval recommendations. The session ran 18 minutes, opening at 6:04 p.m. and adjourning at 6:22 p.m.
2026 meeting schedule
The LPA has met six times this year: Jan. 13, March 3, April 7, May 5, June 2 and July 7. No meeting was held in August, making the Sept. 8 session the first in roughly nine weeks.
The body meets on a roughly monthly schedule, though gaps are not unusual during summer months.
How to participate
LPA meetings are open to the public. Residents who want to speak on an agenda item may do so during the public hearing portion of the meeting.
