Aventura faces several days of showers and thunderstorms, with periods of heavy rain capable of producing localized street flooding as deep tropical moisture remains over South Florida.
The wet weather comes as Tropical Depression Nine develops in the Gulf of Mexico, but the system itself is expected to head toward the northern Gulf Coast rather than South Florida.
The National Hurricane Center said the disturbance became better organized Tuesday, Oct. 6, and developed into a tropical depression. Forecasters expect it to strengthen into Tropical Storm Isaias as it moves across the Gulf.
Heavy rain remains Aventura's main concern
For Aventura, the primary concern is rain rather than a direct tropical cyclone impact.
WSVN Channel 7 meteorologist Vivian Gonzalez wrote Tuesday that "for South Florida, the main story remains the wet and unsettled pattern rather than a direct impact from 92L."
Showers were expected to become more numerous across South Florida's East Coast metro areas, with multiple rounds of heavy rain possible as tropical moisture interacts with a stalled front.
The National Weather Service forecast for Aventura calls for rain chances to continue through Saturday, Oct. 10, with temperatures reaching the upper 80s.
No flood watch had been issued for Miami-Dade County as of Tuesday, but localized street flooding can develop quickly when heavy downpours repeatedly move over the same areas.
Gulf system expected to stay away from South Florida
Before Tropical Depression Nine formed, the National Hurricane Center had raised the system's development probability to near 100% Tuesday afternoon.
Forecasters said the system would move east before turning north or northeast toward the northern Gulf Coast. Areas from the Florida Panhandle westward to Louisiana were advised to monitor its progress.
If the depression strengthens into a tropical storm as forecast, it will be named Isaias, the ninth named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season.
Wind shear could limit how quickly the system strengthens. AccuWeather hurricane expert Alex DaSilva put its chance of reaching hurricane strength at about 15%, according to the Naples Daily News.
A NOAA Gulfstream aircraft sampled the Gulf environment Tuesday, and an Air Force reconnaissance aircraft was scheduled to investigate the system Wednesday, Oct. 7.
Street flooding has affected Aventura area before
Aventura and neighboring communities have experienced street flooding during previous periods of heavy rain.
Aventura Police warned residents in July 2025 to watch for flooded roadways during heavy rainfall. More recently, heavy rain left streets flooded in nearby Hallandale Beach in late September, complicating travel for drivers moving between Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
Drivers should avoid entering flooded roads because water depth can be difficult to judge, particularly at night.
Aventura Police and the City of Aventura had not issued special weather advisories as of Tuesday. Residents can follow National Weather Service forecasts and local emergency officials for updates as the wet pattern continues.
