The Aventura Arts & Cultural Center will host two performances of "ICONS: Latin Rhythms," a concert blending Latin music, theatrical performance and contemporary arrangements led by Venezuelan-American artist Migguel Anggelo.

Presented by the City of Aventura, the show begins at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, and Saturday, Oct. 17. Tickets are available through the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center.

The concert features songs made famous by Latin artists including Rubén Blades and Oscar D'León alongside Anggelo's original music. The production reworks classic sounds through new arrangements, mashups and theatrical elements.

"Every immigrant carries a soundtrack," Anggelo said in a press release announcing the performances. "There are songs that remind us of home, our families, our celebrations, and who we are."

Musicians and South Florida guests join production

Adrian Alea directs the production, with Jaime Lozano handling musical direction, arrangements and piano.

The ensemble includes Saúl Cosme on guitar, Ruben Coca on drums, Yahir Montes on bass, Hugo Moreno on trumpet and vocalists Florencia Cuenca and Dilia.

Special guests include Rosie Herrera Dance Theatre, singer Robmariel Olea, drag artist Adora and Naomi Aguilera of the PoiZon Ivy Lords.

Anggelo designed the costumes.

The production brings together performers with roots connecting Venezuela, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Mexico and other Latin American cultures.

Concert explores music, identity and immigration

Anggelo is a Venezuelan interdisciplinary artist based between Miami and Brooklyn whose work combines music, theater, movement, fashion, visual art and performance.

His work frequently explores immigration, identity, belonging, family and culture.

"ICONS: Latin Rhythms" arrives immediately after National Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. The production centers on music shared across generations and the connections between music, memory, immigration and cultural identity.

The Aventura Arts & Cultural Center is at 3385 NE 188th St. Both performances begin at 8 p.m.
