Nighttime and weekend lane closures are coming to the Golden Glades Interchange starting Saturday, Aug. 1, and running through Friday, Aug. 7, the Florida Department of Transportation posted Friday, July 31.

FDOT District 6 urged drivers who use the interchange to plan ahead and allow extra travel time. The agency posted the alert on its verified X account, directing commuters to review a graphic showing specific closure dates, times, and detour routes.

The interchange sits in northwest Miami-Dade County and connects I-95, the Palmetto Expressway, Florida's Turnpike, SR 9, and US 441. More than 400,000 vehicles pass through it daily. For Aventura, Sunny Isles Beach, and Golden Beach residents who depend on I-95 to reach jobs, airports, and shopping, any disruption at this junction ripples outward.

Which ramps may be affected

FDOT did not publish the specific closure schedule for the Aug. 1–7 week in text form. The prior week's closures, posted July 24, affected three ramps:

  • The northbound I-95 ramp to northbound Florida's Turnpike
  • The eastbound SR 826/Palmetto Expressway ramp to northbound I-95
  • Northbound Florida's Turnpike at the Golden Glades Interchange

The Aug. 1–7 closures may differ. Check the full schedule graphic at Go-GGI.com/lane-closures for confirmed details.

FDOT has been issuing these weekly closure alerts since at least late July, part of the $1.04 billion GGI Project that began construction in March 2024 and is expected to wrap up in fall 2031. The project spans more than 10 miles of roadway and ramps across the interchange.

How to plan around it

Drivers should follow posted detour signs at the interchange. Real-time closure information is also available through Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze, and FL511.com, which receive FDOT data feeds.
