Dan Miller will take charge of the hospital network that includes HCA Florida Aventura Hospital after HCA Healthcare named him president of its East Florida Division on Tuesday, Aug. 25.

Miller replaces Charles Gressle, who led the division and is moving to head HCA Healthcare's newly created Ambulatory Operations Group effective Sept. 1.

The East Florida Division oversees 14 hospitals, 12 freestanding emergency rooms, 65 urgent care clinics and more than 100 physician practices across South Florida. HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, a 493-bed Level II Trauma Center at 20900 Biscayne Blvd. with more than 1,900 employees and over 660 physicians, is among the largest facilities in that portfolio.

Miller comes to the role from Methodist Healthcare System in San Antonio, Texas, where he served as president and CEO of the 50/50 partnership between Methodist Healthcare Ministries and HCA Healthcare. Under his leadership there, annual patient encounters grew from 1.6 million in 2019 to 2.6 million in 2025, according to South Florida Hospital News.

He brings 20 years of healthcare leadership experience.

"His experience leading complex healthcare organizations and his commitment to physicians, colleagues and patients make him an excellent choice to lead our East Florida Division," Richard Hammett, president of HCA Healthcare's Atlantic Group, said in the announcement.

Before Methodist Healthcare, Miller served as CEO of Methodist Hospital and Methodist Children's Hospital in San Antonio, where Methodist Hospital became the largest in Texas by admissions. Earlier, he was CEO of HCA HealthONE Aurora and COO of HCA HealthONE Swedish in Colorado. He holds a master's degree in health administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Gressle's new Ambulatory Operations Group will oversee more than 2,700 facilities and clinics, including HCA's Physician Services Group, urgent care operations and its Surgery Ventures Group. HCA Healthcare CEO Sam Hazen said the restructuring "makes it easier for our patients to navigate our systems."

The leadership change comes during a period of growth at Aventura Hospital. The facility was named to the 2026 100 Top Hospitals list by Premier Inc. and Modern Healthcare, and in July the hospital appointed Kristen Lindenboom as its new chief operating officer. Hospital CEO David LeMonte praised the facility's trajectory in April when it earned the Top 100 designation.

The company did not specify Miller's start date in the East Florida Division role.
