Aventura-area property owners would pay the same county tax rate next year under Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava's proposed budget for fiscal year 2026-27, which holds operating millage flat while directing $79 million toward new investments countywide.
Levine Cava presented the spending plan in a live broadcast on Tuesday, July 15, and posted a summary on X the following day, calling it "a balanced budget that keeps County operating property tax rates flat, protects the services residents rely on every day, and makes smart, responsible investments in our future."
The mayor has not publicly itemized what the $79 million covers. County committees began reviewing department-level proposals on Monday, July 14, when the Recreation, Tourism and Resiliency Committee heard from the Department of Cultural Affairs, the Miami-Dade Public Library System and the Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department. The Infrastructure, Innovation and Technology Committee took up solid waste, water and sewer, and regulatory and economic resources on July 15.
Transit funding draws scrutiny
The proposed budget again draws from the Transit Infrastructure Investment District reserve, a fund originally set aside for rail expansion and major capital projects, to keep the county's transit system running. Miami-Dade used the same approach in the current fiscal year. The county Transportation Committee's chair warned the practice is unsustainable, telling colleagues "there is a crash coming," the Miami Herald's Doug Hanks reported Monday, July 14.
What flat millage means locally
The county budget sets the tax rate and funds countywide services that Aventura, Sunny Isles Beach and Golden Beach residents use directly, including libraries, parks, transit and solid waste collection. Flat operating millage means no county tax-rate increase on 2027 bills, though rising assessed property values could still push total tax bills higher.
Aventura's budget review starts Thursday
The Aventura City Commission holds its own budget review meeting at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 23, at the Aventura Government Center, 19200 West Country Club Drive. A commission workshop follows immediately after. The city reviewed its FY2025-26 budget on July 24, 2025, and adopted it at public hearings that September.
Dates for Aventura's formal FY2026-27 budget hearings have not been announced. Residents can attend the July 23 meeting or watch for fall hearing dates on the city's meeting schedule.
