Active-duty military families in the Aventura area can visit the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science free through Monday, Sept. 7, while a full slate of hands-on exhibits, sensory-friendly programs and summer camps continues throughout July.

Blue Star Museums program provides free admission

Frost Science is participating in the Blue Star Museums program, a nationwide partnership among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families and museums across the country.

The program provides free admission through Sept. 7 for active-duty military personnel, including National Guard and Reserve members, and their families.

The service member does not need to be present. A family member with a military ID may bring up to five guests free of charge by redeeming admission at the museum's Ticket Center.

The program does not include veterans or retired military personnel.

July 18 features sensory-friendly activities and volunteer opportunities

On Saturday, July 18, Frost Science will host Just for Me: Coastal Explorers, a sensory-friendly program designed for individuals and families with diverse sensory and accessibility needs. Participants will explore Florida's coastline through hands-on activities, including building a coastal landscape using sand and other tactile materials.

The same day, community members can participate in a MUVE Volunteer Workday at Crandon Park on Key Biscayne, helping plant native vegetation, maintain restoration sites and remove invasive species.

Interactive extreme sports exhibit remains on display through Sept. 7

The museum's Extreme Sports: Beyond Human Limits exhibition remains on view in the Hsiao Family Special Exhibition Gallery through Sept. 7.

Developed by Science North in partnership with the Ontario Science Centre and sponsored locally by iFLY Miami, the interactive exhibition lets visitors test their strength, endurance, balance, focus and decision-making while viewing artifacts from wingsuit flying, ice climbing, rock climbing, parkour and freediving.

Admission to the exhibition is included with museum admission.

Late-July camps focus on robotics and marine science

Two weeklong camps are scheduled for Monday, July 27, through Friday, July 31, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Robo Academy, held at Frost Science, gives campers hands-on experience building and programming VEX GO robots, coding with Micro:Bits and Sphero devices, and creating 3D designs.

Camp Curiosity: Reef to Deep, held at Ron Ehmann Park in Kendall for children ages 5 to 9, explores marine ecosystems and concludes with a field trip to Frost Science.

Registration for both camps is available at frostscience.org.
