The 3.1-mile loop that Aventura residents walk, run, and bike every day is about to get its first complete overhaul.
The City of Aventura announced that the Don Soffer Exercise Trail will be fully repaved and leveled beginning Monday, July 13. The project will fix cracks and root damage that have accumulated since the trail was originally built, and it will add new water fountains equipped with bottle fillers and dog bowls along the entire circuit.
The work is expected to take approximately six weeks, putting the estimated completion around late August.
What trail users need to know
The trail will be closed in sections during construction, and according to the city, each closed section will not reopen until the entire project is finished. The city has not specified which sections close first or whether any portion of the loop will remain accessible throughout the six-week window.
That means if your usual stretch goes down early in the project, plan on finding an alternate route for the full duration.
The trail
The 10-foot-wide, ADA-accessible path circles the Turnberry Isle Resort Golf Course at 19999 W. Country Club Drive. It is open 24 hours a day, year-round, and free to the public. Residents use it for walking, running, jogging, inline skating, and biking. Many locals simply call it "The Aventura Circle."
The path already features ground lighting, benches, chilled water fountains, trash receptacles, crosswalks, and pet waste bag dispensers. After the repaving, the city said, the entire surface will be leveled and the new fountain stations will include modern bottle fillers and low dog bowls.
The trail is named after Don Soffer, the real estate developer widely credited as the godfather of Aventura, who developed the Turnberry golf course and Aventura Mall. Soffer died in July 2025 at age 92.
The city asked residents for patience during the closure.
