Sunny Isles Beach will open a new outdoor sports facility next week.

The Intracoastal Sports Park at 15800 Collins Ave. opens to the public Thursday, Sept. 3, with a grand opening celebration from 6 to 8 p.m. The city announced the event on its official X account on Monday, Aug. 24, and invited residents to RSVP.

The 0.63-acre park sits at the northwest corner of 158th Street to 159th Street and Collins Avenue. It includes a multiuse court, tennis courts, restrooms, storage and staff space, and a small parking lot. The city has planned the park as a resident-only facility and an extension of the Intracoastal Park system.

The project also was described at its 2025 groundbreaking as including outdoor exercise equipment and a pedestrian pathway.

City leaders broke ground on the project Feb. 26, 2025, transforming what had been a closed construction zone, according to the city’s groundbreaking announcement. The city’s capital-projects page listed a tentative completion date of December 2025 or January 2026. The city has not publicly explained the later September opening date.

At the 2025 groundbreaking, resident Jonas Nielsen called the park “a great addition,” noting that nearby residents “will be able to walk to the park, which is great!” Then-Mayor Larisa Svechin said the space was meant for “people of all ages” to “come together, stay active, and enjoy the outdoors.”

Residents interested in attending the Sept. 3 grand opening can RSVP through a link on the city’s social media pages.
