The Sunny Isles Beach Police Department promoted Janser Llerena to the rank of sergeant, the department announced on Wednesday, July 8.
Sgt. Llerena was sworn in during a promotional ceremony in June, according to the department's official account on X.
The promotion adds a supervisor to the 66-officer force that patrols roughly one square mile of barrier-island coastline serving more than 22,000 residents. Sunny Isles Beach is one of the most densely populated beachfront communities in Miami-Dade County, with about 22,200 people per square mile according to U.S. Census data.
SIBPD operates under Police Chief Eddie Santiago and earned Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation in October 2023.
