HCA Florida Aventura Hospital earned seven national specialty-care designations in Healthgrades' 2027 rankings, released Oct. 27: six America's 100 Best designations and one America's 50 Best designation.
The hospital ranked No. 1 in Florida for spine surgery, according to an HCA Florida Healthcare press release. It also earned a spot among America's 50 Best Hospitals for vascular surgery and was named one of America's 100 Best Hospitals in six additional specialties: orthopedic surgery, spine surgery, prostate surgeries, gastrointestinal care, gastrointestinal surgery and critical care.
That puts Aventura Hospital among 75 Florida hospitals recognized in at least one "America's Best" category, Patch reported. Statewide, 112 hospitals received some form of specialty care recognition.
What the rankings measure
Healthgrades evaluated roughly 4,500 hospitals nationwide on 31 common procedures and conditions. The analysis used Medicare patient records from 2023 through 2025, measuring risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates.
Healthgrades estimated that 227,229 lives could potentially have been saved and 158,138 complications potentially avoided over those three years if all hospitals had performed at the five-star level. Those are statistical estimates for Medicare patients, not documented individual cases.
The Specialty Excellence Awards go to hospitals in the top 15 percent for a given specialty. More selective tiers recognize the nation's top 50 or 100 hospitals in certain categories.
Dr. Alana Biggers, a medical advisor at Healthgrades, said in the HCA press release that finding a hospital strong in a specific procedure can shape a patient's outcome.
The rankings do not assign a single overall score. A hospital recognized for one specialty is not necessarily top-rated in another, Patch reported. Healthgrades adjusts for patient risk factors such as age and medical conditions, but the rankings do not guarantee an individual patient's outcome.
How Aventura compares statewide
AdventHealth Orlando led Florida with 12 specialty rankings, including six No. 1 finishes. Naples Comprehensive Health and Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center each earned eight "America's Best" designations, Patch reported. Aventura Hospital's seven designations trailed only those three facilities among the state's most-recognized hospitals.
Thirty-eight Florida hospitals appeared in Healthgrades' state-level rankings, which identify the top three or five hospitals in each of 19 specialties. Residents can search hospital rankings by specialty at healthgrades.com.
