The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office arrested a convicted felon and seized two firearms after a Crime Stoppers tip led to an investigation in the agency's South District.
The sheriff's South District Crime Suppression Team, working with state probation officers, recovered a rifle, a handgun, one pound of marijuana, two grams of cocaine, one gram of heroin and $1,703 in cash, the MDSO said on Instagram.
The post did not identify the person arrested, list charges or specify the arrest location. Federal and Florida law generally prohibit people convicted of felonies from possessing firearms.
The MDSO's South District covers communities in the southern portion of Miami-Dade County. The sheriff's office did not specify where in the district the arrest took place.
Crime Stoppers allows residents to submit anonymous tips about criminal activity. Anyone with information about crimes in the Aventura area can contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
