The Sunny Isles Beach City Commission considered nearly $2.23 million in security-related contracts and a resolution calling a Nov. 3 general election at its Aug. 20 meeting at Commission Chambers in the Sunny Isles Beach Government Center, 18070 Collins Ave.

Security contracts top $2.2 million, include a bidding waiver

The biggest-ticket item was a proposed $1,504,743 agreement with Millenium Products Inc. to expand the Police Department's Real-Time Crime Center, the hub where drone pilots and dispatchers work side by side under the city's autonomous Drone as First Responder program, launched in 2025. A second proposed Millenium Products contract, worth $380,288, would install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at 22 bus stops citywide.

Together, the two Millenium Products deals total roughly $1.88 million.

A third security item — up to $345,000 to Vetted Security Solutions LLC for camera maintenance and repairs — required a waiver of the city's competitive-bidding rules under Chapter 62 of the Code of Ordinances.

Millenium Products is a repeat vendor for Sunny Isles Beach's surveillance buildout. The commission previously approved the company for CCTV upgrades at Gateway Park in January 2025, a Hiperwall display system for the crime center in September 2025, and camera installations at multiple parks through 2026.

November ballot to decide mayor, two commission seats

The city clerk recommended adoption of a resolution calling a general election for Nov. 3 for three seats: mayor, Seat 2 and Seat 4. A runoff, if needed, would fall on Dec. 1.

Mayor Larisa Svechin, Vice Mayor Jeniffer Viscarra and Commissioners Jerry Joseph, Alex Lama and Fabiola Stuyvesant currently hold the five commission seats. The city's July 2026 Islander newsletter lists key voter deadlines: Oct. 5 to register and Oct. 22 to request a vote-by-mail ballot.

Playground sublease, county grant renewal also considered

The commission considered a sublease with Chai Center of Sunny Isles Inc. for a portion of the Bella Vista Bay Parking Lot to build a public playground and garden. A similar item was deferred at the June 18 meeting under a different entity name — Sunny Isles Beach Jewish Community Center Inc. Publicly available materials do not establish whether the organizations are the same entity, affiliates or separate organizations.

Commissioners also took up a renewal of the city's Community Development Block Grant cooperation agreement with Miami-Dade County, covering fiscal years 2027-29 with a possible three-year renewal through fiscal year 2032 at the county's discretion. A budget amendment for the current fiscal year was considered on second reading.

Individual vote tallies on the Aug. 20 items were not available from the published record at the time of this report. Residents can contact the Office of the City Clerk at 305-792-1703 or [email protected] for copies of agenda materials or to provide input on upcoming items.
