Aventura-area commuters who use the Golden Glades Interchange should expect closures at four ramp locations starting Monday, Sept. 28, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) announced on X on Friday, Sept. 25.
The closures are tied to the ongoing Golden Glades Interchange reconstruction, the $1.04 billion project that has reshaped traffic patterns across northwest Miami-Dade County since construction began in March 2024.
FDOT District 6, which covers Miami-Dade and Monroe counties, listed four locations affected during the week of Sept. 28:
- Northbound I-95 at S.R. 916/NW 135 Street
- Northbound I-95 Express entrance at NW 39 Street and NW 10 Avenue
- Eastbound S.R. 112/Airport Expressway at NW 22 Avenue
- Westbound S.R. 826/Palmetto Expressway at NW 7 Avenue Extension
No detour routes were announced.
FDOT urged drivers to plan ahead and use caution in the area but did not specify whether the closures would run overnight, during the day or around the clock.
The interchange connects five major roadways: I-95, the Palmetto Expressway, Florida's Turnpike, S.R. 9 and U.S. 441/NW 7 Avenue. More than 400,000 vehicles pass through it each day, according to the GGI project overview. Traffic volume is projected to increase 50 percent by 2040.
The project, a joint effort between FDOT and Florida's Turnpike Enterprise, spans more than 10 miles of roadway and ramps. Completion is expected in fall 2031.
Drivers can check real-time lane closure updates through Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze. FDOT also posts the full weekly closure schedule at Go-GGI.com.
