Overnight lane closures and pile driving on Miami Gardens Drive will stretch through Oct. 9 on S.R. 860, also known as NW 183rd St.
The City of Miami Gardens posted the updated schedule Sept. 29. It marks the second extension for the work. The original notice set an Oct. 2 end date, which a Sept. 22 update pushed to Oct. 6 before the latest notice added three more days.
Commuter impact and detour route
As reported when the work began Sept. 22, S.R. 860 ends at Biscayne Boulevard near Aventura Mall and serves as a major commuter alternate to the Palmetto Expressway and the Golden Glades Interchange. The closures affect drivers in Aventura, Sunny Isles Beach and Golden Beach who use the corridor at night.
When the city first announced the work Sept. 9, it said traffic would be detoured between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. The detour route was outlined in the city's original Facebook notice.
It sends drivers south on NW 27th Ave., east on S.R. 826/Palmetto Expressway, onto NW 7th Ave. Extension, then north on S.R. 7/U.S. 441 before turning east on NW 183rd St. The Sept. 29 update did not restate the closure hours or detour, so drivers should confirm those details with the city before traveling.
Corridor improvement context
The pile driving falls within the corridor of a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) project on S.R. 860 between I-75 and NW 79th Place. That project calls for adding one travel lane in each direction, a shared-use path on the north side, new signals at NW 87th Ave. and NW 82nd Ave., and repaving.
The city's announcements have not named FDOT or a specific contractor, so a direct link between the pile driving and the lane-addition project has not been confirmed. No completion date for the broader FDOT project has been posted, and the city has not indicated whether the Oct. 9 deadline could shift again.
