The Starbucks at 19505 Biscayne Blvd. in Aventura is closing, one of 250 North American locations the coffee chain is shutting down during the week of Sept. 24.
Starbucks Chief Operating Officer Mike Grams announced the closures Sept. 24 in a public letter to employees. The Aventura store is one of nine Florida locations on the list, which also includes shops in Fort Myers, Sarasota, Tallahassee and West Palm Beach, according to MLive, which published the full closure list.
Florida has 946 Starbucks locations, the third most of any state, according to The News-Press.
Closures will cost Starbucks $300 million
The 250 closures represent about 1% of Starbucks' more than 18,000 North American coffeehouses. Starbucks said it expects to take $300 million in restructuring charges, including $200 million in cash costs for lease exits and employee separation benefits, U.S. News & World Report reported.
In his letter, Grams said the company reviewed its portfolio and cut locations that could not consistently meet the customer and employee experience Starbucks wants, or that lacked a path to acceptable financial performance.
Workers at closing stores will be offered transfers to other Starbucks locations where possible, according to the company. Employees who cannot be placed will receive severance, though Starbucks did not detail the package.
Union says 20 of its stores affected
Starbucks Workers United, the union representing workers at about 700 company-owned U.S. stores, said 20 unionized locations are among the 250 closures. The union told USA Today it plans to bargain over the effects at every affected union store. It is unclear whether the Aventura location is unionized.
The closures mark the second major round under Chairman and CEO Brian Niccol, who joined Starbucks in 2024. The company closed 627 stores in North America and Europe in September 2025, WSVN reported.
Several other Starbucks locations remain open near the closing store. The fan-tracking site starbuckseverywhere.net lists locations at Biscayne Boulevard and Ives Dairy Road, at The Abbey at Aventura and at Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast 191st Street. A Starbucks at 17100 Collins Ave. in Sunny Isles Beach is also listed as active.
Starbucks did not provide a specific final day for the Aventura store. The company said closures began after the Sept. 24 announcement and would continue through the end of that week. Starbucks said it plans to complete 1,500 store retrofits by Sept. 30, the end of its fiscal year.
