Drivers heading north through the Golden Glades Interchange will lose access to the Turnpike Connector ramp during the weekend of Aug. 7–9 as construction crews shift traffic onto a newly built section of roadway.

FDOT District 6 announced Thursday, Aug. 6, that the northbound ramp will close so workers can reroute vehicles onto the new pavement. Once the shift is complete, drivers will face a new lane configuration connecting to Florida's Turnpike and the S.R. 826/Palmetto Expressway.

The change is permanent.

Unlike the routine nighttime and weekend lane closures we reported July 31, the new lanes represent a finished piece of the $1.04 billion Golden Glades Interchange reconstruction, which broke ground in March 2024 and is expected to wrap up in fall 2031.

The project spans more than 10 miles of roadway and ramps connecting five major systems: I-95, the Palmetto Expressway, Florida's Turnpike, S.R. 9 and U.S. 441. More than 400,000 vehicles pass through the interchange daily, according to FDOT's project page, and traffic volume is projected to grow 50 percent by 2040 without the interchange improvements.

FDOT did not specify exact closure hours or detour routes in its announcement. The agency directed drivers to check Go-GGI.com for updated lane closure details and detour information before traveling the weekend of Aug. 7–9.

When the full project is finished, the interchange will include 34 new bridges and direct connections between Florida's Turnpike and the I-95 Express Lanes.
